Duncan was my first Duck Toller, who I received when I was 11 years old. He was the greatest gift I could have ever received and the dog that changed my life.
I can’t thank Lillian Greensides, of Kylador Kennels, enough for giving me the perfect puppy, and her friendship and mentorship over the years.
Duncan was a beautiful, sweet boy who loved to work. We competed in obedience, agility and field. Duncan earned his Working Certificate at 10 years of age, the same weekend he won Best Veteran in Specialty (the judge asked, “Is he really 10?!”). Despite disliking the show ring at first, Duncan did become a fabulous show dog earning his Canadian, American, UKC and NSDTR Club Championship. Duncan was also my primary dog that I showed in Junior Handling, taking me to win multiple Best Overall Junior awards in CKC, AKC and UKC events. We also won the 2008 Central Ontario Junior Handling Final, and competed at the National event in Montreal.
Despite Duncan being a great show and working dog, he was an even better companion. He loved to do whatever I did. Duncan was with me through a lot of changes during my teenage years. He was with me for multiple graduations, and came with me to vet school.
After a long and hard fight, at only 10, I lost Duncan much too young due to leptospirosis (a bacteria carried in the urine of wild animals). Duncan was my heart dog and best friend. I was very privileged to have such an amazing dog to grow up with.
